Winters Ringers  2025

The thirteenth and final round of the Winter Ringers competition was played last Saturday, under ideal conditions and the pace of play of the field was a real mixture.  After having missed out on booking our usual or near tee time the previous week, we got permission to be able to play the back 9 first at 8.30am, provided that we give way to the first group should they catch up to us. With having completed the back 9 in an hour and 25 minutes, that gave us plenty of time to have lunch and wait for our booked in tee-time for the front 9. We played the first four holes in the same time in took for the whole back 9 and then came the congression of four groups either playing or waiting on the par 3 Hole # 5. That meant a further wait of 25 minutes, no doubt this was compounded by being the first round of club championships off three different tees.

After Round 13, we saw the conclusion of the Winter Ringers competition and Peter Marsh (33.400) maintain his lead over the field, his overall net score increased by 0.040, to be on 48.600. Gordon McCoy (21.144) consolidated his hold on a close second spot, narrowing down the margin behind the leader to 0.018, with his net score of 48.618. Phil Olsen (15.836) improved a spot into third spot on 50.164. He is followed by Chris Choie (15.764) who dropped a place into fourth spot on 51.236. The other most significant  movers in the final week were Kevin King (19.280) up 10 places into fifth spot on 51.720, Alan Smith (28.750) moving up 2 places to eighth spot on 53.250, Greg Carr (32.591) up 3 places to lie in ninth spot on 53.409.

There were an additional 8 new birdies or better recorded bringing the total to 156, with two competitors to score multiple birdies in their round this week, namely Ram Thapa (8.673) with 2 birdies, one in each half; and Spencer Wicks (1.978) with four birdies, two in each half.

We ended with 36 players with a birdie or better. Twenty of the birdies or better have been scored on Hole # 12, with three of them being eagles, with the next best being Hole # 14 with 17 including two eagles. The Hardest hole to attain birdies or better are Holes # 2 and # 18 with two recorded birdies each, with Hole # 3 being the next hardest with three recorded birdies.
